Known for diving freedom Captain Don's let 15 eager divers from GR8 Divn get wet anytime of the day or night. Just grab a tank and go dusk, dawn, nght or day. We all suited up for and enjoyed the 82 degree waters with over 80 feet visibility. The morning boat dives took us back to our favorite dive sites 1000 steps, Karpata, Invisibles, Captain Don's reef, Knife reef, and of course the Hilma Hooker. Hilma is showing great signs of life in corals reef fishes and tarpons in her cargo hole. Other sightings this trip included squid, octopus, scorpin fish, turtles, trunk fish, drum fish of all sizes, trumpets, eel snakes, flamingo tongues, peacock flounders and much more. The hard and soft corals as well as sponges filled the flats and walls. Bonaire's reputation as the healthest reef on the planet 3 years running proved out once again.
The weather was beautiful with 86 degree days and 76 degree nights and only one night of rain. Great news as a new market opened up within walking distance to Captain Don's to stock the fridge with your favorites. Dining included the Rum Runner at Captain Don's [yes the pizza is still great], Patagonia for all you can eat meat night, It's raining fishes garlic soup was the bomb, and a new discovery Will's Grill was delightful. As usual Captain Don's guests included an international mix Dutch, French, Germans, British, Canadians providing ongoing entertainment. The Captain himself showed up Monday evening to sign log books and photos.
Let us express our many thanks to all our travel and dive buddies. Noi was the weeks Captain Don's photo contest winner with her shot of 15 or so christmas trees clustered against the deep blue. Congratulations to Marilyn on completing her open water certifcation.
Yet another GR8 trip and looking forward to the next.
